Google doesn't just read your website — it times it, with a stopwatch, on real visitors' devices. Those measurements are called Core Web Vitals, they're part of how Google ranks pages, and in our experience they're the most commonly failed — and most fixable — SEO factor on business websites.
The three numbers that matter
- LCP — Largest Contentful Paint. How long until the main content is visible. Target: under 2.5 seconds. The usual culprits: oversized images, slow hosting and render-blocking scripts.
- INP — Interaction to Next Paint. How quickly the page responds when someone taps or clicks. Target: under 200 milliseconds. Heavy JavaScript is almost always to blame.
- CLS — Cumulative Layout Shift. How much the page jumps around while loading — the reason you tapped the wrong button. Target: under 0.1. Caused by images without dimensions, injected banners and late-loading fonts.
Why it's worth real money
Speed isn't just a ranking signal — it's a conversion signal. Study after study shows the same pattern: every extra second of load time measurably increases abandonment, especially on mobile, where most of your visitors are. A slow site pays twice: fewer visitors from search, and fewer of those visitors becoming customers.
How we fix slow sites
- Measure first. Real-user data from Google Search Console and PageSpeed Insights, not guesses.
- Images. Right-sized, modern formats, lazy-loaded below the fold — usually the single biggest win.
- JavaScript on a diet. Remove unused libraries, defer what can wait, replace heavy plugins with lightweight code.
- Better delivery. Caching, a CDN, and for content sites, static hosting on Cloudflare — the approach this very site uses to stay green on every metric.
- Stability. Reserved space for images and embeds so nothing jumps.
